Coming this Fall: In Visible Archives
At long last, my first book, In Visible Archives: Queer and Feminist Visual Culture in the 1980s, is making its way into the world this fall! This book is my love letter to eight visual artists who celebrated women’s bodies and sexualities. They created their work within communities as well as for future communities. And, yet, though they are now preserved in visible archives, their legacy is not secure, which has become painfully obvious in recent months as US lawmakers work to pass laws created to limit or erase the lives of women and LGBTQ individuals.
My book is available for preorder at the University of Minnesota Press website, and the press has generously provided a 40% preorder discount code that’s valid through September 1. When the book is released, it will also be available open-access to read for free online through Minnesota’s Manifold Scholarship platform.
I’m in the process of figuring out how and where I will promote this book, and I’d be happy to hear any ideas you have for places or publications that would be good forums to feature this project. I’ll be updating this Substack as the book’s publication nears with more information about its launch, including both in-person and virtual programming.
After a decade’s worth of research in over a dozen archives across the US, I cannot wait to share this heartfelt work with you.
